Direct Vision Standards Safe System Changes : What you need to know

As of October 28, 2024, a significant change is on the horizon for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) over 12 tonnes operating in Greater London. The current 1-star rating requirement is being upped to a 3-star rating, or alternatively, operators can opt for fitting “progressive” safe systems. This shift aims to enhance safety standards on the bustling London roads and ensure that HGVs are equipped with the latest advancements in safety technology in order to protect vulnerable road users. Make sure that your fleet is compliant with London HGV regulations.

Permit Application: A Crucial Step

Irrespective of the chosen safety approach, all operators must submit an application for a permit. The window for registering applications for progressive safe systems opens in June 2024. It’s imperative to stay ahead of the curve and initiate the application process to avoid any disruptions in your operations.

Penalty Charges: The Consequence of Non-Compliance

Failure to possess a valid permit by the specified date could result in penalty charges, with a maximum of £550.00. However, prompt payment within 14 days could see this amount reduced to £275.00. The financial implications of non-compliance underscore the importance of adhering to the new regulations.

All Backwatch safety products are manufactured to the highest standards and supplied with a comprehensive warranty.

Selecting the best solution for your vehicles is of paramount importance. The right system significantly reduces the time spent resolving disputes and dealing with unnecessary accident claims. The cost of installation is a small price to pay in reducing potential casualties or loss of life. Can you afford to take that risk?

We are especially proud to be founding members of the Fleet Operators Recognition Scheme (FORS). Products are fully certified and have been approved as Direct Vision Standard (DVS) Transport for London compliant.
